A craft brand that researches local handwork and traditions, translating them into modern everyday wear.
FOLKLORE's clothesmaking begins with its three co-founders visiting weavers and dye workshops around the country. The brand's role is not to "reproduce" the handwork that remains in each place, but to "translate" it into a form worn daily in modern life.
The signature linen shirt is an original plain weave with hard-twisted warp threads. It softens with air as it's washed - everyday clothing to live with for five, ten years.
Behind the Making
Handwoven linen
Slow-woven on a partner workshop's looms. An unevenness of expression machine weaving can't produce.
Botanical dye
The standard ecru and brown come from chestnut burr and persimmon tannin - depth of color without synthetic dyes.
Repair service
Fraying and tears repaired regardless of purchase year. We consider wearing long part of the design.
