Brand Building That Starts at 30 Pieces

"I want to produce in small lots" has become the watchword for anyone starting a brand today. From operator World Trade's sewing floor, a report on how a 30-piece production run actually works.

Even "small lot" usually means factory orders from 100-200 pieces. Thirty falls below the break-even line for most factories. It works here because patterns, cutting, sewing and finishing run under one roof - a line that minimizes changeover loss is what gives 30 pieces meaning.

About a month from sample to production

Once the designer's spec sheet and references arrive, a first sample is made. After fitting revisions, fabric is ordered and production begins. For standard items, about one month to this point.

What lies beyond 30

Brands that sell through their first 30 step up to 50, then 100. Not going big from the start doesn't just contain inventory risk - it becomes the runway on which a brand learns who its customers are.

The production setup is covered in detail on the About WTB page. If you're considering starting a brand, come talk to us first.
